A PSYCHIATRIST VISITS TRISTAN DA CUNHA, THE MOST REMOTE INHABITED ISLAND IN THE WORLD

A lecture by Professor Brian Robertson

In September 2012 Professor Robertson was invited to visit Tristan da Cunha to advise on initiating mental health services. It was the first visit by a psychiatrist to this small community of 260 people. Professor Robertson will describe his journey on the maiden voyage of the SA Agulhas 2, outline the day to day life of this isolated community, and offer a few observations on the challenges of establishing a mental health service. He will conclude with some images on his visit to nearby Nightingale Island.
