Mark Coetzee, an artist, writer, art historian and curator, originally from Cape Town, rarely speaks about his work.  The Friends are honoured that Coetzee has agreed to share some examples and insights from his career.

Coetzee has directed major institutions in the USA and Europe, curated hundreds of exhibitions on five continents over a period of three decades, published over 30 monographs and taught at numerous important academic institutions.  He is a visiting professor at New World School of the Arts in Miami, USA, curates one of the most comprehensive collections of contemporary art from Africa and its Diaspora, is the cultural specialist for the Zeitz Foundation, and sits on the International Advisory Committee of the Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis, USA.  He is a recognised artist in his own right.  We acclaim Mark’s generosity towards Iziko Museums and especially the National Gallery.
