Topic: Mexico – A Living Past
Mexico is a country where the past is never far away. The major events and people who have been prominent inshaping Mexico feature as an
ever- present reminder in many ways. The lecture, focusing on aspects of the professional interest of the speaker, including architectural history, promotion of heritage tourism and utilisation of public space, will be based on experience gained in various visits, most recently an extended visit in 2012. Specific reference will be made to thestruggle for independence from Spain. Comments on aspects of traveling in Mexico may also be of interest tothose attending – and possibly considering visiting Mexico!
All lectures will be in the TH Barry Lecture Theatre at Iziko South African Museum as usual at 19:00, unlessotherwise advertised. Entrance is free to members on presentation of a valid 2013 membership card. Visitors areasked for a donation of R30.
