Seedtime: Omar Badsha Retrospective
Venue: Iziko South African National Gallery
Liberman Room and Rooms 4, 5, 8, 9
Date: 24 April to 2 August 2015
A major retrospective exhibition of Omar Badsha’s drawings, woodcuts and photographic essays from the mid-1960s to 2000s. His drawings are being shown for the first time alongside his documentary photographic essays for which he is acknowledged as having crafted a new vocabulary and a way of seeing that challenged the established apartheid tropes. In the words of Professor Ari Sitas, “Badsha could do in one picture what a dozen history workshop papers couldn’t in terms of the detail that captured the texture of life and the social history of a people.” A programme of discussions, tours and other events for learners will enrich the exhibition.
