Timbuktu: Script & Scholarship arises from the larger South Africa-Mali project initiated by President Thabo Mbeki in 2002.

Generously funded by the Department of Arts and Culture, this exhibition is the result of collaboration on a number of levels.

We acknowledge the Malian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ahmed Baba Institute, as well as the Exhibition Project Steering Committee comprising HC ‘Jatti’ Bredekamp, Patricia Davison, Graham Dominy, Shamil Jeppie,
