Slavery Summit – Learner / Teacher Programmes

Utilizing inter alia curriculum-based interventions at the Slave Lodge and related sites Rustenburg Girls’ High School and others will exhibit learners’ art work based on slavery themes, poetry and partnerships with the District Six Museum youth projects.

Date: From February 2007 followed by related programmes in preparation for 2008 commemoration of the Slave Rebellion at the Cape.

Photographic exhibition

Photographic exhibition of Afro-Brazilian slaves, accompanied by an art education programme.

The Slave Lodge Sessions

Multi-disciplinary, talks, music (ethno-musicology, origins of Cape jazz, ghoema, choral music), drama performance and readings, and storytelling sessions, to cater for popular access to the Lodge and its exhibitions.

Uprisings, the Path to Freedom

Slavery Route – a structured walking tour with stops at key Iziko sites focusing on slavery and human rights themes, incorporating the District Six Museum, a project partner in our education and public programmes.

Venues: Iziko Slave Lodge, Bo-Kaap Museum, SA National Gallery, Castle of Good Hope, District Six Museum.
