The Education and Public Programmes Department of Iziko Museums of Cape Town offers a range of learning experiences for everyone – whatever your age or level of interest. Public Programmes

Iziko's very popular Summer School is run in February and the Iziko Winter Public Programme, in July. Other programmes to look out for include the African Roots Festival.  more>>

Adult Learning

In addition to annual public learning programmes like the Iziko Summer School (February) and Winter Public Programme (July), Iziko offers regular training workshops in art and natural sciences, aimed at educators and tertiary students. more>>

Holiday Programmes

Iziko offers exciting holiday programmes for younger visitors and families over the holiday period that include storytelling, treasure hunts, mock digs, and craft workshops. more>>

Commemorative Programmes

Iziko marks most commemorative public holidays with public programmes and activities. The 2008 commemorative programmes will focus on:

  • Human Rights Day – 21 March
  • Freedom Day – 27 April
  • Africa Day – 25 May
  • Youth Day – 16 June
  • National Women’s Day – 9 August
  • Heritage Day – 24 September

School Programmes

Daily lessons and tours are offered at five Iziko museums and at the Planetarium. All programmes comply with the New Curriculum. New National Curriculum-based lessons and tours are now available on the themes of Slavery, the Timbuktu manuscripts, Palaeontology and Visual Culture Studies. All guided tours must be booked in advance. Workshops and other programmes for teachers are also available.  For information on programmes, bookings, fees and conditions click here.

Our Discovery Room has everything to satisfy the curious, from marine animals to minerals, fossils, mounted birds and animals.
