SLAVERY WALKING TRAIL
JANUARY 2008
The walking trail begins at the
Iziko Slave
Lodge Museum where participants view the plaque which commemorates
the place where slaves were auctioned, and how the building and street
names have changed since 1658. A short tour covers the conditions that
slaves lived under at the Slave Lodge, their work, the voyages they
were forced to undertake, the different Indian Ocean Islands they
originated from and their legacy in the history of Cape Town. After
the tour of the Slave Lodge Museum, participants are led to the
Bo- Kaap Museum where the focus is
the lives of urban slaves, a visit to the first mosque, The Awaal
