A teachers’ workshop to commemorate the bicentenary of the first slave
rebellion in the Cape in 1808 will be held on 17 July. The theme of
slave resistance will be discussed. A teachers’ resource pack will be
on sale.

Aimed at those who may be considering
taxidermy as a career, the 5-day workshop teaches the basic skills and
diverse applications of this complex art. Participants will learn to
prepare and mount skeletons of small mammals or birds and how to
preserve specimens in alcohol. Suitable
for participants aged 15 years and older.

To commemorate International Museum Day (18 May), Iziko Museums will
be holding a book sale in the amphitheatre in front of the
Iziko
South African Museum
from 10:00-15:00 on Friday 16 May. A wide range
of material, including books, journals and exhibition catalogues
covering a host of topics, will be available at reasonable prices.
The wide variety of literature will
ensure that there is something for everyone, especially those with
an interest in art history.

Learn to write with a ‘qalam’, the traditional reed pen used in
