Celebrate Summer at the hearth of our heritage 10/12/2009
Dive into our Heritage with Iziko Museums of Cape Town as it launches its Celebrate Summer campaign. The campaign will run from the 15th December 2009 until Human Rights day on the 21st March 2010. Access coupons will be available at malls, tourist information stands and newspaper cut-outs. These coupons will permit free access for two adults to any of the Iziko Museums of Cape Town (excluding the Castle of Good Hope and the Planetarium) Children aged sixteen and under enter for free all year round... Free access to Iziko Museums on World Aids and Emancipation Day 10/12/2009
On 1st December - World Aids and Emancipation Day, Iziko Museums of Cape Town will commemorate these two global occurrences by granting the public free access to all its sites. On the 1st December, the public is invited to join Iziko staff at the Iziko Castle of Good Hope for a guided tour of the Not Alone exhibition, attend an interactive performance workshop at Rust and Vreugd, as well as attend talks about HIV/Aids and Human Trafficking at the Iziko Slave Lodge... Free Entrance at Iziko Museums of Cape Town on Africa Day 21/05/2009
Iziko Museums of Cape Town plays host to a thought provoking programme of public events between Wednesday 17th June and Saturday 25 July, when the Cape Town Holocaust Centre hosts a programme of public events.  Titled “Champions of the Child”, the events take place both at the Iziko South African National Gallery and at the Cape Town Holocaust Centre.  The focus of these events is on the life and legacy of Janusz Korczak and the rights of youth and children. From 7-8 March, Iziko Museums will be hosting an excursion to the Sutherland Observatory, home of the South African Large Telescope. It’s “Laduuuma!” As Iziko Summer School hosts soccer indaba to explore museums as spaces for creative tourism and interaction: 2010 and beyond 27/01/2009
It’s time to blast your vuvuzelas as Iziko Museums of Cape Town scores another “Laduuuma!” With the big “Twenty Ten” on every South African’s lips, Iziko Summer School 2009 is initiating a Soccer Indaba. Exploring ways in which museums can be used as spaces for creative tourism and interaction: 2010 and beyond, the event takes place at the South African Museum’s TH Barry Lecture Theatre on Saturday 7 February from 10h00 until 13h00. Homegrown young climate change ambassadors to present a youth perspective on the global crisis at Iziko Summer School symposium… and it’s free! 27/01/2009
It’s FREE – and it’s never been more relevant than right now! A Climate Change Symposium with homegrown Young Climate Change Champions, who serve as environmental ambassadors in their local communities, is one of the offerings at Iziko Museums of Cape Town’s Iziko Summer School 2009. The symposium takes place at the South African Museum’s TH Barry Lecture Theatre on Thursday 26 February at 17h30 for 18h00. Celebrated South African freelance science journalist, columnist and author Leonie Joubert will partake in the symposium. Her books Scorched: South Africa’s changing climate (Honorary 2007 Sunday Times Alan Paton Non-Fiction Award) and Boiling Point: people in a changing climate, travel through South Africa’s remarkable countryside and tell the stories of places and people that are vulnerable to climate change. Red Cross Children’s Hospital patients to receive ‘Messages in a Box’ from young well-wishers 14/01/2009
Young patients with long-term illnesses at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital will soon have their spirits lifted by brightly coloured mobiles hanging above their beds. Creators of these ‘happy mobiles’ – Grade 4 learners from the Western Cape – have inserted special messages into each designer-made box.
