The 4th Cape Town Month of Photography 2008 presents under over-arching theme “Emergence and Emergency”. Festivities have begun in the run-up to the South African Centre for Photography’s 4th Cape Town Month of Photography 2008 (MoP4). Officially set to open at the Castle of Good Hope on Thursday 2nd October at 18:00, this triennial festival will showcase a wide spectrum of South African photographers, from conceptualist fine artists to photojournalists and studio photographers. more>>

Architecturally, Cape Town is described as a fascinating mosiac of Asian, European and African traditions mixed with increasingly modern elements. For those who wish to build up their knowledge of the city’s building stones, brick by brick, there will be a talk at the Iziko South African Museum, on Tuesday 30 September at 19:00 by Dr Douglas Cole from the Council for Geoscience, on ‘The Building Stones of Cape Town’.

‘Stephen Shore: Colouring American Photography’, opens at Iziko South African National Gallery on Heritage Day, 24 September, and is the first solo exhibition in South Africa of the work of American photographer, Stephen Shore. On view until 23 November, the exhibition is a component and highlight of MoP4, Cape Town’s Month of Photography 2008 and focuses on two of Shore’s seminal series: American Surfaces and Uncommon Places.
