African Dinosaurs Exhibition Opening
African Dinosaurs is a new and exciting exhibition that
opens at the Iziko South African Museum on the 29th May 2010.
This exhibition is the culmination of several years of
planning and development. As the title suggests, it showcases
dinosaurs and their reptilian relatives that lived in Africa
millions of years ago. The exhibition includes several
uniquely South African fossil specimens, as well as fossils
(or their casts) collected from other parts of Africa,
including Morocco and Niger...

Standard Bank Young Artist for
Visual Art 2009: Nicholas Hlobo: Umtshotsho. At the
Iziko South African National Gallery from 30 May 2010 to 15
August 2010
The Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art 2009
has been awarded to Nicholas Hlobo. Nicholas Hlobo presents a
major new sculptural installation in his solo exhibition,
Umtshotsho. This exhibition concludes a year-long national
tour at the Iziko South African National Gallery, where it
will be on display from 30 May until 15 August 2010...

Iziko celebrates
International Museum Day 2010
On 18 May 2010 museums around the world will celebrate
International Museum Day. Museums wield the potential to serve
as platforms from which cultural exchange, awareness and
enrichment can be facilitated in order to promote tolerance
and understanding. Iziko Museums of Cape Town will also
celebrate this international event by granting visitors free
access to its sites (excluding the Castle of Good Hope), as
well as hosting a dynamic outreach programme on the day...

Re-opening of Iziko Social
History Library
The newly-renovated Iziko Social
History Centre, located at 17 Church Square in the City
Centre, re-opened its library to the public on the 12 April
2010. The Social History Library, is one of three Iziko
Museums of Cape Town libraries and focuses on the history and
people of southern Africa, with a special interest in Cape
Town and the Western Cape...
