Add a high note to your day by visiting the "Celebrating our
Music, our Heritage" exhibition currently on view at the Iziko
Good Hope Gallery, Castle of Good Hope, daily from 09:30 -16:00.
The exhibition pays tribute to the country's musical icons,
celebrates the role of music in the everyday lives of South
Africans and shows that music has played a significant part in
shaping our diverse South African culture. Viewers will enjoy a
visual and musical journey through the heritage of South African
music from pre-colonial times through the colonial period to the
post-apartheid present.
Focussing on indigenous musical instruments, the exhibition
recognises the deep roots of musical expression in southern
Africa and draws attention to the ways in which African
traditions and imported styles have fused to create musical
forms that are uniquely South African.
Developed by Iziko Museums of Cape Town in collaboration with
the Heritage Agency, Design Infestation, the National Film,
Video and Sound Archives and Moshito, the exhibition was
initiated and funded by the Department of Arts and Culture as a
key component of the 2006 Heritage Month celebrations.
"Celebrating our Music" closes on Saturday 14th October so
hotfoot it down to the castle to enjoy this musical journey. Enq:
