Look, listen, learn; draw, dig, dance!

With the holiday season looming, Iziko Museums are offering a variety of workshops for participants of all ages. Ranging from art to clothing design and from archaeology to taxidermy, workshops are R20 each unless otherwise stated. To book, call +27 (0)21 481 3823 or e-mail lmvimbi@iziko.org.za or jsilberman@iziko.org.za

Memories and Magic: Myths and imaginative drawings: San stories told against a backdrop of vivid San paintings provide the inspiration for participants to create their own imaginative artworks at Iziko SA National Gallery. Suitable for the whole family, the workshop runs on 8 & 15 December from 10:00-12:30.

"Fabrications" - A contemporary response in wearable art": The inspiration for this workshop, in which participants will create a fabulous designer T-shirt using waste products and natural organic material, comes from "Fabrications", an exhibition exploring cloth, clothing and drapes, and the rendering of drapery in paintings. At
Iziko SA National Gallery, on 6 & 13 December from 10:00-13:00. Participants, preferably 10 years and up, must bring their own t-shirt; younger children to be accompanied by an adult.

Archaeology for beginners: Join a "virtual" archaeological dig without having to leave the city centre. A mock digsite at a city venue will enable the whole family to explore the mysteries and marvels of archaeology - using ancient tools and modern methods. 14 & 21 December from 10:00-12:30. Suitable for all ages.

Taxidermy workshops: A unique opportunity for those aged 16 years and up, to learn the "art" of taxidermy in which animal skeletons and skins are brought to life and mounted for display. 8-12 January. R100 per person at Iziko SA Museum, all day - times on enquiry.

Creative Aids Workshops: Youth groups are invited to join Iziko facilitators in a series of exciting workshops in which participants, through the medium of hip hop, drama and art, will address various issues around Aids.
