Rembrandt, Poussin & Velasquez - lecture series at Iziko SA Museum

Following a sell-out lecture series last year on Baroque art by critic Lloyd Pollak, the public will once again have the opportunity to learn about this bold and decorative art movement of the 17th century.

Hosted by Friends of SA National Gallery, all lectures take place at Iziko SA Museum and begin at 17:30.

On 28 February, Pollak discusses Rembrandt van Rijn, greatest painter of all time and a man of intense spirituality.

On 14 March, the topic is Nicolas Poussin known as the "artist's artist" whose work strongly influenced Modernists such as Cezanne and Picasso "who obsessively reworked his imagery."

On 28 March, it's the turn of Diego Velasquez as Pollak discusses Spain's greatest painter and "one of the world's supreme portraitists whose ravishing colour and sparkling brushwork make him the most painterly of painters."

The cost is R40 per lecture or R100 for the series for Friends. Guests pay R50 per lecture or R130 for the series.
