05/04/2007 "Working holiday" at the museum

Ever thought of becoming a taxidermist or marine biologist, a zoologist or museologist? Iziko Museums will offer participants an insight into a host of interesting careers when they run a series of informative workshops these holidays.

From 10-14 April, the taxidermy workshop offers an introduction to this unusual craft and its diverse applications, including preparing, mounting and preserving of small animals and birds. The 4-day, full-day, course costs R100 per person and runs at Iziko SA Museum.

On 10 April, from 13:30-16:30, 10-12-year olds will visit a rock pool and learn how to find, identify and classify a variety of marine creatures. The cost is R10 per person, venue to be confirmed.

On 12 April, from 10:00-12:00, 8-11-year olds can learn about the "secret life" of a natural history museum. From whales to dinosaurs, from shamans to hidden treasure, participants are promised a morning of fun and surprises as they embark on a "treasure hunt at the Iziko SA Museum". The cost is R10 per person.
