From ruins to
ruins - Africa's heritage sites
The African continent contains a wealth of unique heritage
sites, ranging from historic cities and towns to National Parks,
forests and rock art sites. But even their prestigious Unesco
World Heritage site status has not prevented many from falling
into ruin. Amongst those dedicated to their preservation is
UCT's Prof Heinz Rűther who is tasked with documenting
these sites and creating a digital archive.
On 24 April at 19:00 at Iziko SA Museum, Prof Rűther talks
to Friends and guests about this fascinating project, especially
his work in Mali, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. Entitled
"African Cultural Heritage and Landscapes Database", the event
is free for Friends; R20 for guests. Come early and enjoy a
glass of sherry. Enq: 072-225-6893.
