Revelations
from Timbuktu
The topic of Timbuktu and the ancient manuscripts discovered at
this legendary and once-bustling city, come under the spotlight
at 19:00 on Tuesday 29 May when Friends of SA Museum host
well-known astronomer, Dr Thebe Medupe, in a talk entitled
"Astronomy in Timbuktu". Dr Medupe discusses this fascinating
project which has already revealed some amazing data such as
descriptions of astronomical phenomena and models of the solar
system.Dr Medupe, who
holds a doctorate in astrophysics and works at UCT, will be
remembered as presenter of the compelling film "Cosmic Africa"
which aimed at reconciling science and myth.
The event takes place at Iziko
SA Museum and entry is free for Friends; R20 for guests. Enjoy a
