15/05/2007 Host of events at Iziko for international museum day

Iziko Museums will be hosting a range of educational programmes leading up to and including International Museums Day on Friday 18 May.

On Wednesday 16 May from 09:30-13:30, there will be Marine Biology and Archaeology presentations and on Thursday 17 May, at the same times, Cenozoic Palaeontology and Taxidermy presentations at Iziko SA Museum. On Friday 18 May, International Museums Day, there will be free entrance to all Iziko sites, free Planetarium shows at 12:45 and 14:00 and an hour-long tour of the Slave Lodge Memory Centre at 10:00 and 13:00.

There will also be a special programme for educators on 18 May in which they can examine Iziko's collections - including art, natural history and social history collections - in depth. The programme includes a free Planetarium show and lunch as well as behind-the-scenes tours of collections, laboratories, exhibitions and specialist department, and attendance at art events. Booking for the event, which runs from 12:00-16:00 at various Iziko sites, is essential.
