22/06/2007 Surprises up for grabs - Iziko holiday workshops

If you're over 7 years of age and love mysteries, then Iziko Museums is the place for you. These winter holidays, Iziko is offering a whole bag of surprises at a host of different venues.

On 10 July from 10:00-13:00. Using a selection of the strangest ingredients from potatoes and cabbage to nuts, bottle tops and tempera paints, participants, aged 7 to 70, will produce unusual portraits whilst discovering the basics of colour theory. "Printing is fun" runs at Iziko SA National Gallery; entry is R15 including materials.

On 11 July from 10:00-12:00: Become part of the "Amazing Treasure Search". Challenged by puzzles, passwords and detours, participants will seeks answers to the mystery of life - or such features of it as fossils, reptiles, mammals and marine life. Participants, aged 8-80 years, will also learn how to do rock art and "trance dance." The venue is Iziko SA Museum and the cost is R10.

On 12 July from 10:00-12:00, participants will create a replica of the Castle, the oldest building in Cape Town and historically, the most interesting in the land. The castle model is used as a board game, after which participants embark on a real-life mystery journey through this formidable heritage site. The cost is R15 and is suitable for 9-12-year olds.

On 13 July from 10:00-1200, Iziko educators will play host in a mystery behind-the-scenes tour that promises to reveal secrets, surprises and glimpses into the past. Suitable for 8 upwards, the event is R10.
