China from a business and a
spiritual perspective
China, the most populous country in
the world and one of its oldest civilisations, is the topic of two
lectures organised by the Friends
of South African Museum during October. Both events take place
in the Iziko South African Museum’s Whale Well and begin at 19:00.
On 24 October, Clem Sunter discusses ‘China’s Game: The Dragon in
Africa’, based on discussions with China’s top business people, who
have now revealed their ‘vision for Africa’.
On 30 October, a more ‘romantic’ perspective is provided by David
Grier. Recently Grier, together with Braam Malherbe, undertook a
4000 km journey that took him from the desolate Gobi desert to the
east coast of China and straight onto the world stage! His journey
was not only a test of extreme physical endurance and spiritual
awaking, but also a commitment to Operation Smile, an organisation
that provides life-changing surgery for children, and for whom Grier
raised substantial and much-needed funds.
Entry to both events is free for Friends; R20 for guests. Enquiries:
Maxine, 072 225 6893.
