During February, Iziko Museums’ Department of Education and Public Programmes is offering a variety of teachers’ workshops based on age-old arts and crafts. These are both fun to do, and invaluable in passing on new skills to learners. For enquiries and bookings, call Power at 021 481 3823 or email jsilberman@iziko.org.za.

21 and 22 February from 14:30-17:00 at Iziko SA Museum - paper-making workshop. During this environmentally friendly project, participants will learn to make, colour and design their own paper. The cost is R20 per person.

28 and 29 February from 15:00-17:00 at Iziko SA National Gallery Annexe – Puppet-making workshop. Mali puppets are amongst the most enchanting of this artform. Participants will use recycled materials to create a ‘kinetic’ puppet which will help motivate learners, add interest to lessons and provide an excellent tool for special needs teachers. The cost is R30 per person.

1 March from 10:00-14:00 at the Castle of Good Hope – Drum-making workshop. Participants will use recycled and household materials to create their own drums, and have fun learning to play them. The cost is R100 per person.
