30/01/2008 Gain insight into age-old genre of Still Life painting

Pieter Hugo – In Tyrone Brand’s Bedroom – 2007On Saturday 9 February, at 14:30 at the Old Town House in Greenmarket Square, Prof Michael Godby conducts a walkabout of an exhibition entitled ’Is there Still-Life?’ The exhibition, which runs until 31 March, is a must-see for both art cognoscenti and the general public. The vast and lively selection of works provides insight into the different influences on this centuries-old genre, including art styles, lifestyles, socio-political circumstances and the personal philosophies of artists.

Robert Hodgins – A conservative Still Life – 1986 – Oil on canvasThe Old Town House is home to the famous Iziko Michaelis Collection of Old Dutch Masters. Hosted by Friends of the Michaelis Collection, the event is free for Friends and R10 for guests.Parking is available in the Mandela Rhodes Place parking garage, corner Burg and Wale Street.
