The plight of elephants in South Africa has been widely trumpeted about so it is timely that on Tuesday 25 March at 19:00 at Iziko South African Museum, the Friends of the South African Museum host a talk by Dr John Hanks entitled “Elephant management in South Africa – why it is necessary and what the options are." The discussion aims to clarify a host of issues on this controversial topic.

Dr Hanks, a partner of International Conservation Services, is a zoologist of note. With over 35 years’ experience in research and conservation, he lists amongst his important postings that of Chief Executive of WWF-South Africa as well as the first Executive Director of the Peace Parks Foundation. He has received numerous awards, including the Endangered Wildlife Trust Statesman Award and was named Conservationist of the Year for 1990 by the Safari Club International.
