An event not to be missed by art lovers takes place on Saturday 15 March at 14:30, at the historic Welgemeend Manor House in Gardens, when the Friends of Michaelis Collection host a walkabout of the famous Boerneef Collection of early South African art.

Situated in the grounds of the Jan van Riebeeck High school, Welgemeend was the home of many well-known personalities through the centuries, including Cape politician Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr, fondly known as ‘Onze Jan’.

The artists represented include Irma Stern, Maggie Laubser, May Hillhouse, Cecil Higgs, Jean Weltz, Hugo Naude, Enslin du Plessis, Pierneef, Alexis Preller and Pieter Wenning.

Architectural historian, Dr Hans Fransen, leads the walkabout.
