Archaeological findings shape our
viewpoints
As part of the ongoing
Freedom Project, a programme that commemorates the impact of the
slave trade and highlights the links between historical slavery and
contemporary human rights violations, Iziko Museums hosts a free
lecture by Dr Antonia Malan, entitled ‘Unearthing Slavery: The
Complex Role of Archaeology,’ at 18:00 on 24 April at the
Iziko Slave Lodge Museum
in Adderley Street, Cape Town.
Archaeological findings provide a particularly powerful testimony to
slave experiences in South Africa. Dr Malan, an archaeologist and
researcher based at the University of Cape Town, will discuss how
archaeology unearths new viewpoints of our past and present.
