07/04/2008 The heat is on at Iziko - volcanic talk

On 29 April, at 18:30 for 19:00 at Iziko South African Museum, Dr John Rogers, a marine sedimentologist in the Dept of Geological Sciences at UCT, will present a talk entitled ‘A marine geotourist’s view of volcanoes’. Based on his personal visits to these highly charged sites, this sizzling event will be enhanced with DVD footage, specimens for handling and the opportunity to peruse some compelling publications.

Volcanoes occur mainly at plate tectonic boundaries, such as the so-called ‘ring of fire’ around the Pacific that includes the famous, and still-active, Krakatoa, scene of a series of cataclysmic eruptions in 1883.

Hosted by Friends of SA Museum, the event is free for Friends and R20 for guests. Come early and enjoy a glass of sherry with Friends.
