The art of attracting and
deflecting attention
On 22 May, at 11:00, the Friends
of the South African National Gallery host a walkabout of a
group exhibition running at the Michael Stevenson Contemporary in
Green Point entitled ‘Disguise: The art of attracting and deflecting
attention’.
Described as an exhibition that
‘explores threads of pageantry, trauma, drag, political pretence,
fashion and stealth’, it combines the work of artists from different
countries, using a range of media from painting, sculpture and
photography to video and performance.
The artists include Candice Breitz,
Nicholas Hlobo, Pieter Hugo, Lunga Kama, Mustafa Maluka, Zanele
Muholi, Nandipha Mntambo, Youssef Nabil, Athi-Patra Ruga, Claudette
Schreuders,Simon Gush and Yinka Shonibare.
Curator Joost Bosland leads the
walkabout, which costs R20 per person.
