09/05/2008 Rocky recovery for African Black Oystercatcher - lecture 27 May

On 27 May at 19:00 at Iziko South African Museum, Dr Douglas Loewenthal of the Percy FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology will convey some good news about the African Black Oystercatcher. The largest of all oystercatchers and the only one to breed in Africa, its conservation status has improved overall despite its ‘near-threatened’ status.

Entitled ‘The African Black Oystercatchers: on the rocky road to recovery’, the discussion will focus on those factors responsible for population change as well as the current status of this species, whose numbers have happily increased.

Hosted by the Friends of the South African Museum, the event is free for Friends and R20 for guests. Come early and enjoy a glass of sherry.
