27/05/2008 In the footsteps of Irma Stern

On Saturday 7 June at 10:30 the Friends of the Iziko Michaelis Art Collection will host a walkabout led by Mary van Blommestein at the historic Irma Stern Museum in Cecil Rd, Rosebank.

Internationally famous, Irma Stern lived in this home for almost four decades. A large number of her original artworks are on display downstairs. In addition, visitors can enjoy her collections of precious artefacts and the original furnishings in several of the rooms.

In the upstairs gallery, USA textile artist Leonie Castelino will lead a walkabout of her current exhibition ‘Metamorphosis’. Her art has been described as intellectual while maintaining strong aesthetic sensibilities that engage the viewer. Cloth is transformed with dye, brush, needle, thread and imagery into evocative paintings, hangings and sculpture.

The event costs R10 and booking is not required. Enquiries: Lila Komnick at (021) 403-2123.
