04/07/2008 Walkabout of Albert Adams Retrospective Exhibition

On Sunday 20 July at 11:00 at Iziko South African National Gallery, Marilyn Martin, Director of Art Collections for Iziko Museums, conducts a walkabout of the first comprehensive retrospective of works by internationally-acclaimed, South African-born artist, Albert Adams.
The exhibition is entitled ‘Journey on a tightrope’.

Forced by apartheid policies to study abroad, Adams attended the Slade School of Art in London. He subsequently settled in London where, for 18 years, he taught and lectured at various institutions including the City University, London.

An instinctive expressionist with a profound social conscience – not unlike Francisco Goya - Adams was inspired by both local and international events. He exhibited his work extensively and the ‘Albert Adams Retrospective Exhibition’ now accords him due recognition as a major South African artist.

Hosted by Friends of the South African National Gallery, the walkabout costs R50 for Friends and R75 for guests. Enquiries: Lizzie 021 467 4662/0 (Tue-Thu 10:00-14:00) or email sangfriends@iziko.org.za
