Brainwaves and energy-generating
waves
The hot topic of how to generate energy from our natural resources
comes under the spotlight at Iziko Museums this month when Prof
Wikus van Niekerk enlightens audiences on ‘Options for Renewable
Energy in South Africa’. Hosted by
Friends of the South African Museum, the event takes place at
the Iziko South African Museum on Tuesday 26 August at 19:00.
Prof van Niekerk, who is Professor in the Dept of Mechanical and
Mechatronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University, as well as
Director of the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies,
examines the various sources of renewable energy available in the
country, the technology required to convert it, major barriers to
these proposals and future research on the subject. Of particular
interest to this committed enthusiast, who holds a PhD from the
University of California in Berkeley, is the harvesting of energy
from waves.
The event is free for Friends and R20 for guests. Tickets are
available at the door and advance booking is not required. Enquiries
to Maxine on 072 225 6893.
