Celebrate Summer at the hearth of our heritage…

Dive into our Heritage with Iziko Museums of Cape Town as it launches its Celebrate Summer campaign. The campaign will run from the 15th December 2009 until Human Rights day on the 21st March 2010. Access coupons will be available at malls, tourist information stands and newspaper cut-outs. These coupons will permit free access for two adults to any of the Iziko Museums of Cape Town (excluding the Castle of Good Hope and the Planetarium) Children aged sixteen and under enter for free all year round.

Its holiday! Time for fun and entertainment in the sun! The effects of the recession have left budgets exhausted before the silly season has begun. Celebrate summer with the Iziko Museums of Cape Town. Come and see - this is the place to be en dis nogal for free.

Iziko is an isiXhosa word meaning hearth and encapsulates our vision to be considered the hearth of our diverse heritage. The exhibitions, activities and spectacular sights are designed to delight, inform and enthrall -tourist, local and all. Dive into our heritage. Take a walk up to our door - discover art, nature people and more. Here you’ll find cool places to explore. 

DADA South, Strengths and Convictions: the lives and times of the South African Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and Alexis Preller: Africa, the Sun and Shadows are great exhibitions for all to see and currently on at the South African National Gallery.

At the Planetarium you’ll meet Morris Mouse, Davy and the Dinosaur. Discover the planets, stars and Milky Way – on show 12:00 and 13:00 every day. 

The Celebrate Summer Campaign is jam packed with fun. Join us for beading workshops, costume making, performances, film screenings and more - summer with Iziko won’t be a bore. For those who want to investigate, poke and prod the Discovery Room is filled everything normal and odd.

The Slavelodge has something for the young, old and bold. There is more to come and many stories to be told. Watch out for de Madiba show en iets ons ken, net in tyd vir 2010. Kom kyk die show, check die displays. Dis vannie Kaapse Klopse ennie Malays. Dis oor ons culture en mos ons songs, di colours, di lights en performances from those summer nights.
