The following vacancies and tenders exist at Iziko Museums of Cape Town:

Director of Art Collections

Iziko seeks to appoint a Director of Art Collections on a five-year contract to lead the dynamic development, presentation and promotion of Iziko Art Collections and meet the challenges of transformation in the heritage sector.

The primary purpose of this position is to lead and direct all art projects and programmes, including collections development, conservation, exhibition, education, interpretation and publication, and to build a committed team of art collections staff.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Strategic implementation: Develop and direct the implementation of a business plan for the Art Collections Department aligned with Iziko’s Strategic Plan. ▪ Develop the Iziko Art Collection as a national art collection in accordance with policy guidelines ▪ Acquire the resources for a dynamic programme of long-term and temporary exhibitions, in collaboration with internal and external partners

People Management: Lead, manage and inspire the performance of staff ▪ Mentor and coach staff to enable them to fulfil their potential ▪ Develop career pathing for staff

Stakeholder Focus: Deliver art programmes and projects that enhance the reputation of Iziko and increase stakeholder support ▪ Ensure that art projects reach new and previously marginalised audiences ▪ Facilitate innovative programmes to cater for people with special needs

Financial Management and Administration: Ensure good governance and compliance with the PFMA as well as Iziko policies and procedures ▪ Prepare and manage the Art Collections budget ▪ Submit quarterly and annual reports ▪ Increase financial viability through fundraising, reducing costs and maximising revenue

COMPETENCIES

Leadership and aligning performance for success ▪ Application of knowledge ▪ Communication skills ▪ Collegiality and teambuilding ▪ Networking ability

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A Masters degree in the History of Art or related field ▪ At least 5 years’ experience at a management level in the art or heritage sectors ▪ In depth knowledge of the visual arts ▪ Proven research and writing ability, as well as a record of publication ▪ Computer literacy ▪ Public speaking ▪ Mentorship experience

REMUNERATION

Peromnes Grade 4 ▪ Salary (excluding benefits): R264 768 – R358 212 per annum ▪ The salary offered will depend on the applicant’s qualifications, experience and skills.

BENEFITS

Iziko contributes towards a designated retirement fund (compulsory), a designated medical aid (voluntary) and offers a housing subsidy (voluntary) if employee owns the property in which he/she lives. Further allowances such as car and cellular phone allowances are applicable.

Director of Education and Public Programmes

Iziko seeks to appoint a Director of Education and Public Programmes on a five-year contract to lead the development of innovative, museum-centred learning programmes, increase and diversify audiences, and contribute to social cohesion.

The primary purpose of this position is to direct museum-centred education services and public programmes for both young learners and adults through the interpretation of Iziko’s exhibitions and collections, and the development of related learning resources.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Strategic implementation: Develop and direct the implementation of a business plan for the Education and Public Programmes Department (EPP) aligned with Iziko’s Strategic Plan

People Management: Lead, manage and inspire the performance of staff ▪ Mentor and coach staff to enable them to fulfil their potential ▪ Develop career pathing for staff

Stakeholder Focus: Deliver EPP projects that enhance the reputation of Iziko and reach new audiences ▪ Implement EPP projects that attract partnerships ▪ Develop programmes for people with special needs

Financial Management and Administration: Ensure good governance and compliance with the PFMA as well as Iziko policies and procedures ▪ Submit quarterly and annual reports ▪ Prepare and manage the EPP budget ▪ Increase financial viability through fundraising, reducing costs and maximising revenue

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A tertiary qualification relevant to the field of education and life-long learning ▪ At least 5 years’ relevant experience in the education sector ▪ Managerial experience ▪ Knowledge of the national curriculum ▪ Knowledge of the heritage sector ▪ Computer literacy ▪ Public speaking ▪ Mentorship experience

REMUNERATION

Peromnes Grade 5 ▪ Salary (excluding benefits): R223 224 – R302 004 per annum ▪ The salary offered will depend on the applicant’s qualifications, experience and skills.

Tender: Architects - Tender Number: IA/29052008/01/SGZ

Tenders are invited from suitably qualified Architects to submit proposals for the upgrade and refurbishment of Iziko South African Museum foyer, restaurant, retail areas, executive offices and inter-leading public areas.
