Koopmans-De Wet House was built around 1700. First opened to the public as a museum in 1914, this town house is today furnished in the style of the late eighteenth centuries. The interior walls are decorated with unique mural paintings dating from the same period. The neo-classical architecture boasts a facade attributed to the craftsmanship of architect Louis Thibault and sculptor Anton Anreith, while the secluded courtyard shelters one of South Africa's oldest vines.

The town house is named after one of its last residents, Marie Koopmans-De Wet, who in the late nineteenth century received and entertained many prominent personalities including presidents, governors and academics.

This old town house is a true gem of the Cape and with its special atmosphere will provide you with a unique venue for book launches and music concerts.
