A new display on the life Marie Koopmans-De Wet is on view Iziko Koopmans-De Wet House and contextualizes her life story in 19th century Cape Town.

Marie was born in 1834, and is best remembered for her help to Boer women and children in the concentration camps during the South African War (1899–1902), for whom she collected food and clothing by appealing for help from her contacts in Europe and America. It is due to this work that after her death donations streamed in from all parts of South Africa to facilitate the establishment of this house museum in 1914.
