Iziko Museums of Cape Town celebrates the significance of
Youth Day this Wednesday, 16 June, by welcoming the public to
visit our national museums for free (excluding the Castle of
Good Hope and Iziko Planetarium). It is apt that South Africa
celebrates our youth’s significant and courageous contribution
to our democracy, as the world watches us host the most
momentous sporting event to ever be held on African soil.

Iziko celebrates International Museum Day 2010

On 18 May 2010 museums around the world will celebrate
International Museum Day. Museums wield the potential to
serve as platforms from which cultural exchange, awareness
and enrichment can be facilitated in order to promote
tolerance and understanding. Iziko Museums of Cape Town will
also celebrate this international event by granting visitors

Re-opening of Iziko Social History Library

The newly-renovated Iziko Social History Centre, located at
17 Church Square in the City Centre, re-opened its library
to the public on the 12 April 2010. The Social History
Library, is one of three Iziko Museums of Cape Town

pleased to announce that Ms Rooksana Omar has been appointed
as the Chief Executive Officer (Designate) for Iziko Museums.
Ms Omar holds an MBA and BA (Hons) degree and is currently the
Director of the Luthuli Museum, a National Cultural
Institution in KwaZulu Natal. In this capacity she has
provided leadership on both a strategic and operational level,
successfully delivering a relevant and dynamic programme
whilst ensuring strong governance, compliance and unqualified
