BAROQUE ART AND ARCHITECTURE SERIES

The Friends of the Iziko Michaelis Collection present a series of
five lectures on The World of Baroque by Dr Hans Fransen, well-known
art and architectural historian, and former Director of the
Michaelis Collection. The series is a slightly adapted repeat of the
one given several years ago to great acclaim. At the conclusion,
subscribers to the whole series will receive a free illustrated
booklet containing the full text of all five lectures. The lectures
start at 14:30 at the Old Town House:
- 4 October 2008: Introduction: “The Art of Persuasion”
- 18 October 2008: “Classical” Baroque and
Protestant Baroque
- 1 November 2008: Rococo in Central Europe:
Towards a Total Art
- 15 November 2008: Transmutation: Iberia and Latin
America
- 29 November 2008: At Second Remove: Is there Baroque at
the Cape?
Cost per individual lecture: Members R50, visitors R60, students
R40. Series booking (5 lectures for the price of 4): Members R200,
visitors R240, students R160. Includes light refreshments.
