Style always in fashion at the Old Town House

Sir Max Michaelispresented the collection of Netherlandish old master paintings, known as the Michaelis Collection to the South African Nation in 1914. The City of Cape Town made available the Old Town House, to house the collection, and following renovations to restore the old building, the new art museum – the first in Cape Town – was opened to the public in 1916. And the rest, as they say, is history! But more than just a pretty reminder of the past, this glorious historical building, its walls covered with precious masterpieces by Frans Hals, Ruisdal and others, provides an ideal venue for stylish corporate events.

Centrally situated on Greenmarket Square in the heart of the City, the Old Town House is today – a hundred years later – as practical as it is picturesque. This is what an ecstatic client and its guests discovered in December last year, when DATACash hosted its annual end of year function under the theme “The Great Gatsby” at this historical venue. Urban Avantgarde was the event coordinator that helped turn the Old Town House into a glamorous set that would have made even F. Scott Fitzgerald long for the decadent age of the ‘roaring 20s’.

Sumptuous outdoor receptions can also be accommodated in the leafy courtyard, and lends a unique setting for film shoots, cocktail events and wedding photographs.
