Isintu and Ceremony, Identity and Community
a South - South Dialogue

These two exhibitions Isintu and Ceremony, Identity and Community mark the first formal exchange and co-operation between the South African National Gallery the Robben Island Museum and Flinders University Art Museum in Adelaide, Australia. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to reflect on our countries, cultures, commonalties and differences.

With this project, the three participating institutions address some of the questions related to the politics of representation. Isintu is unique and breaks new ground in being the first exhibition at the Gallery to be curated by a black South African.

Isintu presents an opportunity to build cultural bridges between artists, curators and institutions to address the dynamic of cultural diversity and to celebrate the work of emerging artists.
