Introduction to Catalogue Listing

Biographical information was obtained from various sources. Every attempt was made to contact each artist, who was supplied with a form requesting biographical data. In cases where artists did not respond, information was obtained from library and archival resources.

Because of the large number of artists on this exhibition biographical details had to be limited to birth date, education, three recent exhibitions and three public collections other than the SANG. Researchers requiring more comprehensive information can consult the SANG library.

Catalogue entries are listed alphabetically under the artist’s surname. Illustrations are, ordered chronologically according to the date of the work. Where no dates were available curators had to make informed guesses or rely on the date of acquisition.

Measurements are in millimetres, height before width before depth. Unless otherwise stated a single measurement indicates diameter (d) or circumference (c).
