Iziko South African National Gallery to
exhibit DIS-EASE: a new
generation of video art from the Rijksakademie archives

The Iziko South African National Gallery
is proud to host DIS-EASE: a new generation of video art
from the Rijksakademie archives. Taking place from 6 April
until 28 June 2009, the video compilation screening reflects
on the power of the medium, both in terms of content and
articulation, as explored by some twenty-seven artists of
seventeen different nationalities.

The Tropics: Views
from the Middle of the Globe

Paradise, or unpredictable,
menacing jungle, escape or place of damnation? This exhibition
investigates the myth of “the tropics” through the juxtaposition of
contemporary and pre-modern artworks. Contemporary artistic
involvement with the myth of “the tropics” is juxtaposed with
historical objects from the geographically defined belt of the
tropics.

New Director of Art
Collections at Iziko

The CEO of Iziko Museums of
Cape Town, Prof H.C. Bredekamp, has pleasure in announcing that Mr
Riason Naidoo has been appointed as Director of Art Collections at
Iziko. He takes up his appointment in May 2009. His portfolio
includes responsibility for the art collections at Iziko South
African National Gallery and the Old Town House.
