Current research and curatorial projects

Pre-colonial archaeological research at the South African Museum is concerned mainly with understanding human behaviour in terms of social forces, technological developments and palaeo-environmental contexts. Reflecting the location of Iziko in the Western Cape, our principle focus is on human history in the last 300,000 years and covers topics such as the origins of modern people, hunters and gatherers, the origins and history of pastoralism and rock art.
