These Nassarius kraussianus shell beads are among the
earliest beads discovered anywhere in the world. Archaeologists have
collected adult Nassarius shell beads found in groups of 2 to 27 in
the archaeological deposit. The morphology, size and microscopic
characteristics of the holes in the shells show that they were made
using bone tools with sharp points. The beads show traces of ochre and
of having been worn on a string. (SAMAA 8987-8990)
