Beacon, stone, Plettenberg
Bay, Western Cape, 1778
VOC Governor Joachim van Plettenberg erected this beacon in 1778
during a wagon journey to the northern and eastern border regions of
the Cape settlement, marking the boundary of the Dutch colony. It was
placed on a prominent spot at the then newly-named Plettenberg Bay.
