Designed by Arne Jacobsen, Denmark, 1956; manufactured by Fritz
Hansen, Denmark. Known as the 'Egg' chair, this was the climax of
Jacobsen’s furniture design. It consists of a back and seat moulded in
a one-piece plywood and upholstered, with steel legs.
In 1956 Jacobsen designed two upholstered chairs - the Egg and Swan -
for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and both the designs became
very popular.
