Boonzaier was a painter of landscapes, portraits, still life,
seascapes and figures. He worked in oil, watercolour, ink, wash,
pencil, charcoal, and produced uneditioned linocuts. A valuable
contribution to South African art was his work as Chairman of the 'New
Group' during the years when younger South African artists needed an
energetic and progressive spokesperson. He was also a member of the
Board of the South African National Gallery. In 1999 President Nelson
Mandela presented the National Order to Gregoire Boonzaier. (SACHM92/93)
