Plane, bead moulding, beechwood, by Thomas & Stephen Ponder, Fish St. Hill, Upper Thames St. (1832 – 1852), London

⅝" bead, boxed and slipped. No wedge or irons – the ones present were added by the donor.

The Ponders were in business as carpenters in the City of London from 1759 or earlier. They constructed boxes of all sorts, and later on became planemakers, most likely not until after 1800 and perhaps as late as 1823, the earliest directory description.
The Captain’s woodworking tools collected in the Ocean Tap.
The latter refers to the Cape Peninsula which looks like a tap and that in turn refers to the 'Tavern of the Ocean'.

The tools were all collected in the Cape Peninsula by Captain W J van der Merwe.
