Founded in 1968 the Friends (FONG) have been instrumental in acquiring important art works, sponsoring several innovative educational programmes and promoting the National Gallery in a variety of ways.
Friends activities include regular lectures, studio visits, exhibition walkabouts and opportunities to meet artists working and exhibiting in and around Cape Town
The Friends' Secretary, Lizzie O'Hanlon can be contacted at the the Friends office at the South African National Gallery from 10h00 to 15h00, Tuesday to Thursday.

Membership benefits

Corporate members receive in addition:
- Four cards per corporate membership
- Listing in the reception foyer of the Iziko South African National Gallery
- Private tours of exhibitions on request
Membership categories
Membership subscriptions are for a calendar year.
Applications for a reduced fee in cases of need will be considered.
Annual Membership
- Adult R 125.00
- Pensioner (from the age of 60): R 75.00
- Student (up to the age of 25 and holding a valid student card) R 75.00
- Family (2 adults & 2 children under the age of 18): R 175.00
- Institution: R 300.00
- International Members: R 300.00
- Corporate: R 5,000.00
