Wardah Harris is the Programme Booking Assistant – Education Department. Her job involves managing bookings for schools, universities, educare centres and community groups wanting to visit the Planetarium and museums. Ms Harris says what she enjoys most about her job is the different challenges it has to offer and working with a diverse group of people – ‘But most of all the smiles on everyone’s faces when they leave.’ She believes it is important to have a strong work ethic, and to be dependable, responsible, honest, and most of all highly motivated to grow and learn. She says these values all add to her career and her life.
Ms Harris’ favourite exhibition was Under Cover of Darkness, which was held at the Slave Lodge. ‘As a woman it saddens me to think that not only those women but everyone else had to endure such harsh lives in the time of slavery,’ she says. ‘It takes one back in time and enables us to think about how privileged we are to have our freedom.’
Ms Harris would like to go backpacking in Europe and travel to Zanzibar, but at the top of her wish list ‘would most definitely be the Maldives!’ A few of her favourite places are the V&A Waterfront, Signal Hill and Chapman’s Peak – but most of all she loves Cape Town’s beaches.
